On the afternoon of December 14, 2023, the delegation of the Ryan Institute, University of Galway, Ireland visited and worked at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) with the aim of promoting cooperation in training, scientific research and having detailed discussion on scholarship programs for VNUA’s students.

 Overview of the program

From VNUA, participating in welcoming the delegation, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, VNUA’s President, Party Committee Secretary; Dr. Nguyen Viet Long, Director of the Office of International Cooperation; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Loc, Faculty of Agronomy, Member of the quinoa cooperation project team with Ireland as well as staff of the VNUA’s Office of International Cooperation. From the Ryan Institute, University of Galway, Ireland, there were Prof. Charles Spillane, Director of the Ryan Institute; Dr. McKeown and Dr. Ciara Varley who did research in the field of Crop Science, University of Galway.

Speaking at the program, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, VNUA’s President, Party Secretary, expressed her joy when welcoming the delegation of the Ryan Institute, University of Galway, Ireland to visit and work at VNUA and respectfully thanked Prof. Charles Spillane for his care for VNUA. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan suggested that Prof. Charles Spillane would continue to support VNUA in developing international projects in the fields of sustainable agriculture and agriculture in responses to climate change; and support VNUA by sponsoring scholarships for VNUA’s students to study for a year at the University of Galway; in addition, each year, VNUA would choose excellent and qualified graduates who were eligible for master's degrees in engineering, agricultural technology, economics and business administration to continue studying and researching at the University of Galway.

Prof. Charles Spillane, Director of the Ryan Institute, University of Galway, Ireland, thanked the thoughtful and warm welcome from VNUA. Through the working session, Prof. Charles Spillane also wanted VNUA and the Ryan Institute, University of Galway, Ireland to coordinate more closely in cooperation in training and scientific research, especially in the field of agriculture. Prof. Charles Spillane also hoped that in the coming time, the two sides would continue to coordinate closely and that Galway University would propose projects to support funding for training VNUA’s students in Ireland and long-term projects on developing high-tech agriculture and sustainable agriculture in the coming years. In addition, Galway University would also send researchers to VNUA to collaborate in doing research and develop research directions that would contribute to the development of science and technology in Vietnam and the world.

Also at the meeting, the delegation visited a number of faculties and offices at VNUA. The two sides discussed and agreed to cooperate closely in training, scientific research and sharing programs and projects that the two sides could cooperate with each other in the near future./.
