Vietnam and Ireland cooperation scholarships worth over 2 billion VND

The announcement ceremony of the Vietnam and Ireland cooperative scholarship program on food and agricultural system transformation in 2024 took place on the morning of January 23, 2024 at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA).

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, VNUA’s President, said that the Embassy and the Irish Sustainable Food Systems Agency agreed to sponsor a number of fully funded master's scholarships for VNUA’s students and staff for the academic year 2024-2025, at the University of Galway.

The program focused on research topics on food systems, climate change response and innovation. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan believed that this exchange cooperation program would be a valuable opportunity for VNUA’s students.

This was also a great motivation for more and more students and young generations to continue to stick with the agricultural industry in general and VNUA in particular, thereby, striving to contribute intelligence and strength to develop Vietnam's agricultural sector sustainably.

According to Mr. Conor Finn, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Vietnam, the scholarship was worth 2.2 billion VND. The purpose of the Scholarship Program was to nurture future leaders and develop domestic capacity, thereby, contributing to the transformation of the food system, towards transparent accountability and sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

In September 2018, the University of Galway and VNUA established a Memorandum of Understanding of the Education and Research Alliance on climate-resilient food and agricultural systems.

Mr. Charles Spillane, Director of the Ryan Institute, Galway University, Ireland, acknowledged that the scholarship program would strengthen cooperative relationships and create opportunities for VNUA’s students and lecturers to participate into prestigious master's programs at the University of Galway and, at the same time, to carry out master's research projects, thereby, contributing to strengthening Vietnam - Ireland cooperation in the field of sustainable food system transformation.
