From October 5 to 7, 2023, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) organized the 5th National Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Conference with the theme "Circular livestock farming in the digital era" at VNUA and Ha Long Bay.

Attending the Conference, there were Dr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Dr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Prof. Dr. Dau Ngoc Hao, Chairman of Vietnam Veterinary Association; Dr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, Chairman of Vietnam Livestock Association; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Party Committee Secretary, VNUA’s President; representatives of embassies and scientists from countries around the world; leaders of departments, agencies and institutes of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the provinces; leaders, lecturers, scientists from universities in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and veterinary medicine; leaders and members of the Veterinary Association, Vietnam Livestock Association and other associations; leaders of corporations, companies, and businesses; key officials, staff and outstanding students of VNUA.

Delivering the opening remarks at the plenary session and overview report, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Party Secretary, VNUA’s President shared that "The livestock industry has been making an important contribution to national nutritional security, creating livelihoods for nearly 10 million households nationwide, contributing more than 25% to agricultural GDP. The veterinary industry has affirmed its important role in protecting animal health and ensuring biosecurity in livestock farming through one health programs, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and inspection of food safety, etc.". Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan also affirmed that "The development following the circular economy model is the main direction for the livestock industry to develop sustainably in the context of climate change, gradually limited resources and the risk of pollution of the livestock farming environment".

Speaking at the Conference, Dr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development highly appreciated the contributions of universities and colleges in training and scientific research in the fields of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine. The Deputy Minister affirmed that the conference was a forum for scientists, managers, businesses, and lecturers to share research results and discuss new research ideas towards sustainable development of the livestock and veterinary industry. Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed that a closed, organic, and circular livestock farming was an inevitable requirement.

Attending the opening session of the Conference, delegates, scientists, managers, lecturers and students listened to four presentations from speakers with extensive experience in the field of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, including: Livestock with circular agriculture in the digital era; Digital transformation in livestock farming - an inevitable trend; Reuse agricultural by-products and biological waste to produce animal feed and create bioenergy; and Veterinary management towards health and food hygiene and safety.

During the Conference, in addition to the opening session of the plenary meeting and the overview report, delegates had in-depth seminars with the following main topics: Science and technology about pig production; Science and technology about poultry production; Science and technology about ruminant production; Science and technology about pet animals; Environmental and waste science and technology; Science and technology on processing and preserving livestock products; Animal welfare and ethics in livestock research; and The diseases transmitted between humans and animals.

On the evening of October 6, 2023, the Conference honored Sponsors, organizations and individuals who made significant contributions to the Conference and awarded the flag to organize the 6th National Conference on Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science for Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry. A light and sound music festival to congratulate the success of the Conference program and a meaningful Gala Dinner program were also organized so that delegates had more opportunities to share and connect with each other in orienting and developing the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary industry of the country.
On October 7, 2023, the Conference continued the discussion session in Ha Long Bay with the theme “Training in Animal Husbandry - Veterinary Medicine in the context of global integration” to provide new directions for Animal Husbandry - Veterinary Medicine sector in the current context of integration.
