Australian Volunteer Program at VNUA

After the success of the online volunteer program in 2020, RAID Network (Researchers in Agriculture for International Development), the Australian Volunteer Program in collaboration with Faculty of Economics and Rural Development, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) developed a volunteer program with the theme “The Research for Development Challenge” (The R4D Challenge) with the participation of Australian volunteers and staff and students of VNUA from July 24 to August 4, 2023

Hai Duong's onions and garlic - Opportunities and challenges

Onions and garlic are the main crops grown in many areas in Hai Duong. In That Hung, ward of Kinh Mon town, nearly 100% of farmers grow onions and garlic as the main crops that take them the main income from agriculture. According to Mr. Tuyen, a resident in That Hung, if there was no need for rice straw to cover the soil line of onions and garlic, many people would not grow rice, because it does not bring profit after deducting expenses.

Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) is an important cash crop that contributes 80% of global consumption and 40-50% of the world’s bio-ethanol production (Zuurbier & Vooren, 2008).
