Montgomery County Executive, Maryland State, the USA visits Vietnam National University of Agriculture

On November 9, 2023, Mr. Elrich Marc- Montgomery County Executive, Maryland State, the USA paid an official visit to Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) with the aim of exploring opportunities for cooperation in training and scientific research.

Attending the meeting were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan- VNUA President; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Long – Director of International Cooperation Office; Associate Professor. Dr. Tran Van Quang - Dean of the Faculty of Agronomy; MSc. Bui Huy Doanh – Acting Vice Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine; Mr. Elrich Marc- Montgomery County Executive together with members of the Montgomery County and businesses in the fields of biotechnology and environment; leaders of faculties, departments, institutes and centers under the university.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan- VNUA President expressed her gratitude when welcoming Mr. Elrich Marc and said that the university would like to thank the County Executive for his visit. VNUA has developed strong connection and signed many cooperation agreements with partners in the U.S. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan mentioned that Montgomery County is an important research and business center, specifically in the Mid-Atlantic region. In addition, Montgomery County is also the third largest biotech cluster in the United States, with a large cluster and large enterprise-sized companies. Therefore, cooperation with Montgomery County will help the university improve the quality of training and scientific research, specifically in the field of biotechnology in the near future. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan also hoped that through this cooperation, the relationship between the State of Maryland and the government of Vietnam will also be enhanced and promote high technology investment opportunities.

Mr. Elrich Marc- Montgomery County Executive expressed his thanks to the thoughtful and warm welcome from VNUA and personally Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan and leaders of the University's faculties, departments, institutes and centers. Mr. Elrich Marc also expected that the university will create favorable conditions, along with Montgomery County, to coordinate more closely in research cooperation, especially in the field of biotechnology, the Montgomery County's strength. Mr. Elrich Marc also hoped that through cooperation with VNUA, it will create a premise for Montgomery County, Maryland State, US businesses to have many opportunities to cooperate and invest in Vietnam in the near future.

Also at the meeting, both sides discussed possibilities of cooperation in training, scientific research, sharing programs and projects. The university also hoped to receive the support of Mr. Elrich Marc to strengthen cooperation and promote investment opportunities in high technology between the State of Maryland and VNUA.

Montgomery is a County in the state of Maryland, located in the north side of Washington, D.C., and southwest of Baltimore. The County’s capital is located in Rockville. The county has a total area of 1313 km2, of which land area is 1285 km², water area is 31 km². The County's population according to the 2010 census is 971,777 people.
Montgomery County is an important research and business center. It is a biotechnology hub in the Mid-Atlantic region and it is also the third largest biotech cluster in the United States, with a large cluster and large enterprise-sized companies in the state.
Maryland is famous for its fishing and is the place that produces the most blue crabs in the United States. The state is also famous for coal, clay, natural gas and limestone mining.
Montgomery County's diverse agricultural industry is home to 558 farms, 10,000 farmers and contributes $281 million to the County's economy. There are approximately 375 livestock operations raising beef, dairy, sheep, goats, poultry, pigs and pigs.
Agriculture: Grain farms (corn, wheat, soybeans and barley) on approximately 34,526 acres. The majority of the grain produced in Montgomery goes to support Maryland's poultry industry on the Eastern Shore and other livestock operations in the region. In addition, wheat is produced for the preparation of cookies, crackers, cakes and bread products; corn for ethanol production; and the barley now serves the local brewery to produce beer.
