On September 25, 2025, at La Thanh Hotel (Hanoi), the project “Digital Monitoring of VietGAP Compliance in Fruit Value Chains of Smallholder Farmers in Northwest Vietnam for High-Quality Domestic and Potential Export Markets” (code AGB/2022/114) was officially launched with the participation of Vietnamese and international partners. The project was funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and jointly implemented by the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute (FAVRI), Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), the Northern Mountainous Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (NOMAFSI), along with research institutions and local partners.

 Project Kickoff Workshop: Digital VietGAP – AGB/2022/114

The objective of the project was to improve the livelihoods of smallholder fruit producers in the Northwestern region of Vietnam by assessing the applicability of digital tools in monitoring VietGAP compliance within fruit value chains, thereby enhancing competitiveness and expanding access to high-quality domestic and export markets for the key fruit groups.

The kickoff workshop was attended by and featured the welcome remarks by Mr. Pham Ngoc Mau, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; Ms. Claire Ireland, Development Counsellor at the Australian Embassy; and Mr. Tran Nam Anh, Country Director of ACIAR in Vietnam. At the workshop, participants were introduced to an overview of the project, its research orientations, and engaged in discussions on stakeholder coordination during project implementation.

As part of the kick-off activities, on September 26, 2025, the research team organized a discussion session and developed the first-year activity plan at the Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Research. On September 27, 2025, the working delegation conducted a field survey on fruit consumption at traditional markets, wholesale markets, and AeonMall Hanoi supermarket.

The research team from the Faculty of Economics and Management, VNUA, was responsible for conducting studies on the socio-economic conditions, markets, and value chains of high-quality fruits for domestic consumption and exports as well as carrying out the monitoring and evaluation of the project’s results and impacts.
