On the afternoon of August 27, 2024, the Delegation of the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia for poverty reduction and food security led by Ms. Dorita Setiawan, Assistant to Special Envoy, paid an official working visit to the university to learn about the role of academia in research and policy recommendation making in poverty reduction and food security. Receiving the delegation were Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong, Vice President along with representative leaders of the International Cooperation Office, deans and lecturers from the faculties of Agronomy, Economics and Rural Development, and Natural Resources and Environment.
In his welcoming speech, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong expressed his delight in welcoming the delegation and expected to expand cooperation based on existing cooperation with universities, research institutes, and international organizations in Indonesia such as IPB University , SEAMEO BIOTROP organization as well as VNUA’s strengths in research and training with numerous scientific and technological achievements such as plant and animal varieties (rice, corn varieties: HQ21, HQ19, Viet Lai 24, TH7-2, MV2, Lai Thom 6, Bac Thom No. 7, Lily orchid varieties, Pietrain pig varieties, bovine semen (BBB, Brahman, Senepol...), products from edible mushrooms, medicinal mushrooms, tissue culture, aeroponics - hydroponics (vegetables, potatoes), processed beverage products from agricultural products (quinoa, dragon fruit...), vaccines, animal disease diagnostic kits.
Ms. Dorita Setiawan - Assistant to the Special Envoy, Head of the Delegation – expressed her sincere thank for the warm welcome of the university. She informed that the Special Envoy is responsible for enhancing collaboration on rural development and sustainable poverty reduction, promoting sustainable development goals and supporting food security in the region. “Expecting to learn about practical experiences and evidences in Vietnam in making policies to support farmers based on research results, the Delegation has worked with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and some universities and research institutes in Vietnam, including Vietnam National University of Agriculture, one of the leading universities in Vietnam in the field of agriculture and rural development, contributing remarkably to the cause of poverty reduction, industrialization and modernization of the country”, Ms. Dorita Setiawan emphasized. During the discussion, the university representatives shared their practical experiences in utilization research results as a basis for policy recommendations and emphasized that research which were conducted in several sites to compare, based on people's needs with the participation of all stakeholders would be convincing evidence for making policy recommendations.
At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed their wish to continue to maintain the connection to further develop a close cooperative relationship. The Office of the President will be a bridge to expand cooperation between the university and Indonesian partners in the future.
